Real time reporting from NYC our roving reporter brings you this New York rainbow. Picture taken by our Head Cutter Patrick Murphy – searching for the pot of gold!
As anyone who has been to the BTBA summer party at Merchant Taylors Hall will know – the Greg Davis Band set the tone for the evening. Not only with the smooth Jazz – but also Greg ‘The Trumpet’s suits. This year will be no exception, Patrick Murphy is cutting a suit for him using this fabulous wool/silk/linen mix cloth.
This year’s summer party is on Friday 8th July 2016.
Game of Thrones star dressed by Davies & Son for premiere of Game of Thrones (Season 6)
Daniel Portman who plays Podrick Payne in Game of Thrones was resplendent in a Davies & Son bespoke suit at the Premier of season 6 at the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Unfortunately for ardent followers of the show – the question – is Jon Snow dead? remains unanswered…………
However – we can answer some questions about the suit
The cloth, an 8oz worsted, midnight blue luxurious lightweight – from Davies & Son stock.
Single breasted 2 button front 3 piece, cut to slim the body in a classic Davies & Son style.
And thanks to our cutter and tailors this suit was measured, cut and made in under a week………..still – that’s probably a long time in Game of Thrones.
We sent out our first e mail newsletter at the beginning of March. The newsletter will be monthly
Sergei Rachmaninoff was a customer of Davies and Son.
For those of you who might be suffering from ‘cultural withdrawal’ following the seasonal holiday, we can recommend this excellent BBC documentary ‘The Joy of Rachmaninoff’. If his music isn’t dark enough for January we don’t know what is.
Whether you are a classical music fan or not you will be familiar with his powerfully dark melodies as they are so hauntingly identifiable – in particular his Prelude in C sharp Minor which he composed when he was a teenager. There is a Slavic melancholic depth to this piece that, once heard, makes it hard to forget.
The reference to the three-piece suit made by Davies and Son appears at 49.35.
Many thanks to Alfredo Ramos for letting us know about this via the website.
We welcome Eric Musgrave as an occasional features writer.
Eric has been writing about fashion and style for 36 years and is the author of ‘ ‘Sharp Suits’ (Pavilion Books), an acclaimed pictorial history of men’s tailoring since Victorian times.
He has far too many clothes and a very understanding wife.
Eric’s first article for us, ‘Memories Of The End Of An Era’, which dips into his Tailor & Cutter archive from 1939, appears in our Features section.
